Performing our soundtrack to The
Cabinet of Dr Caligari for the first time…
21 November 2007, The Luminaire, London
Last show of the year. Wonderful venue... not exactly packed but great
atmosphere. Playing on the bill with Lautrec.
28 October 2007, Lewes Live
Literature Festival, East Sussex
The director of the festival said he wanted to close the festival with
something that left the audience lost for words. Literature festival... lost
for words... geddit?
7 October 2007, The Barbican, London
The “Invitation to a Dream” programme is repeated at the self-appointed “Home
of Silent Cinema” in London.
6 October 2007, Ciné Lumière, London
“Invitation to a Dream”: a six-film celebration of the work of
Germaine Dulac with live accompaniment by three acts (us, L’Inquiétant
Suspendu and Errollyn Wallen). We played - at long last - to a 35mm print of The Seashell and the Clergyman,
recently restored by the Netherlands Filmmuseum. We also played to a short
film of Dulac’s from 1929, Étude
cinégraphique sur une arabesque.
3, 4, 5 October 2007, Shunt Vaults, London
This was a chance to get back into the swing of it before our important
weekend. We met the French band L’Inquiétant Suspendu too. They played, we
played, then we all played together - jamming to 60s/70s short experimental
films. The DVD player’s eccentricities kept us on our toes... chaotic...
great fun...
27 July 2007, Shot by the
Sea film festival, Hastings
We were the festival’s opening item. Storms blew down the original venue,
“the remarkable GaiaNova Dome”... Plan B was an open-air screening...
unfortunately it rained at the last minute. So we went indoors and played another
ad-hoc show for the hardy remaining audience.
14 July 2007, Latitude
Festival, Suffolk
In the Music and Film Arena. This was about the only place in the UK where
the sun was shining!
18 June 2007, The Round
Chapel, London
Impromptu show in one of Hackney’s most stunning venues.
25 May 2007, South Hill
Park arts centre, Bracknell
The Q&A session afterwards was as surreal as the films we’d played to...
13 April 2007, Union Chapel, London
An amazing Gothic chapel in Islington. Beautifully lit... magical.
19 February 2007, The Arnolfini gallery,
Bristol
The South-west’s premier arts centre... very civilised.
14, 15, 16 February 2007, Shunt Vaults, London
Back to the Vaults, as part of their Lounge Nights.
1 February 2007, St Paul’s
Church, Birmingham
We were the opening item of the Flatpack II Film Festival - our first venture
out of London.
25 January 2007, Urban,
Spitalfields Market, London
Downstairs in the basement of Su’s hairdresser’s... a DIY show with a bed
sheet as a makeshift screen to a packed audience. We added Symphonie diagonale to the set for the
first time.
10 December 2006, Bethnal Green
Working Men’s Club, London
Second show of the day, this was a rock ‘n’ roll thing, sandwiched on a
packed cabaret bill between a drag act and a punk band.
10 December 2006, Curzon
Mayfair, London
First show with our new cellist, Greg. Big “proper” cinema. Sunday matinée
screening to a “select” audience.
11, 16, 17 August 2006, Shunt Vaults, London
First run of three shows in Shunt’s labyrinthine space. Packed audiences -
people were turned away on the door!
